Weaving Projects & Articles
Fabric Forecast Supplements
As our gift to you, the articles posted
here give complete weaving information for many of the garments
and swatches featured in the Fabric Forecast columns. These
drafts and project directions can be very helpful for understanding
setts, yarn relationships, structures, weaving pitfalls, and
finishing techniqueseven if you don't make the specific
project. Note that the garments suggested for the swatches
have not actually been constructed but are intended to inspire
you to create them.
Let us know how you do! We would love to hear your thoughts regarding
this supplement. E-mail us at handwoven@interweave.com.

Brushed Mohair Cape (Zen Garden Palette) (165 KB)
This cape is luxurious, elegant, and soft—both the warp and the weft are mohair. The mohair fabric was brushed while undertension on the loom. The trim is made from a purchased Pendleton wool jacquard fabric in a contrasting color. |

Eyelash Fabric for Duster (Crayon Brights Palette) (162 KB)
Jane Ellis’s unusual eyelash weave would be perfect as the accent fabric in this long duster. The draft is a 4-shaft plain weave with weft floats that are cuton the loom to make colorful Crayon Bright eyelashes! |

San Diego Jacket (Retro Palette) (118 KB)
In this elegant 6-shaft fabric of merino wool and wool/silk, windowpanes of straight and zigzag twills are framed bylines of basket weave, which add texture to the fabric. |
 |
Summer and Winter Vest (Fall Harvest Palette) (145 KB)
In this fabric, a sequence of four colors alternateswith a background color in the warp. When the pattern weft floats on the back of the fabric, the warp colors show. When it floats on the face, the colors seem to disappear. Coordinating beads are prestrung on the tabby weft in selected places to look like small bubbles rising up in the columns of color. |

Waffle-Weave Vest (Crayon Brights Palette) (200 KB)
This vest fabric uses the Crayon Brights palette in an unusual variation of waffle weave. Instead of the usual waffle-weave cells, in this fabric several strands of a thick variegated weft make a ribbon-like textured stripein the weft direction. |
