SPRING 1998

Stained Glass Tunic (page 40). Chart key omitted sybmol for k2tog.

SUMMER 1998

Beyond the Basics (pages 7–8): The information for adding bust fullness is incorrect. You should add bust fullness to the center of a garment the same way you add fullness to the tummy. Work three or four sets of short rows, beginning and ending three stitches in from the edges. There will be more rows in the center of the piece but the number of rows at the edges (side seams) will not change.

Lace-Panel Jacket Clarification (page 12): In Row 5 of the Corona chart on page 14, the “k1, p1, k1, p1, k1” sequence should all be worked into the “yo twice” of Row 4.

Intertwining Cable (page 46): Row 27 of the Cable chart on page 48. None of the cable symbols on this row should be shaded green. There should be a total of 10 green cable symbols.

Summer Dress Up Jacket (page 50): A reader wrote in to tell us that the I cord needs adjustment for it to work on both sides i.e. be the mirror image. She says: On the right side slip the last 3 sts kwise, with yarn in back. Turn work, p the first 3 sts, pulling yarn tightly.

Octagon Shawl clarification (page 58): Although it seems odd, the two front extensions are worked exactly the same. This causes one to appear to head “north” and the other to head “south,” and the sections of the octagons continue into the extensions. It is important that when you work the octagons, end them on Row 40–the row worked with yarnovers and the first row with 44 stitches. If you go one row further and end the octagons on Row 41 (the row worked without yarnovers and the second row with 44 stitches), the extensions will not work out properly. Use the labeled diagram to visualize how the parts fit together.

WINTER 1998

Sweden Revisited (page 32)
In the section after Shape shoulders and neck: . . . BO 4 sts at beg of next row (neck edge), p10 (10, 11, 12), wrap st, turn, work to end of row.

On-the-Go Gansey Jacket (page 37)
Page 37, last paragraph of first column, After working Rows 1-12 six more times, Work rows 9-11 (not 12).

Beginning after Row 12 at the bottom of the first column:
Work Rows 1-12 six more times. Then work Rows 9 – 11 once, ending with a WS row—piece should measure about 12 1/2″ (31.5 cm) from beg of stripe patt.

Shape gussets: The gusset row is worked on a RS row as given in the original pattern. There will be 193 (201, 209, 217, 225) sts total after all gusset increases have been completed and before beginning the yoke. The first row of the yoke is worked on a WS row, and should read as follows:

Yoke: (WS) P2, *work Double Garter st over 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) sts, p1, work Untwined Cable chart over 10 sts, p1, work Chevron chart over 11 sts, p1, work Untwined Cable Chart over 10 sts**, p1, Double Garter st over 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) sts, p1, Double Garter st over 7 sts, p1; rep from * to ** once, p1, work Double Garter st over 13 (15, 17, 19, 21) sts, p1, work Untwined Cable Chart over 10 sts, p1, work Chevron Chart over 11 sts, p1, work Untwined Cable Chart over 10 sts, p1, work Double Garter st over 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) sts, p1, work Double Garter st over 7 sts, p1; rep from * to ** once more, p1, work Double Garter st over 3 (4, 5, 6, 7) sts, p2. Cont in established patt working “p1” sts in St st, and at the same time….

Spiral Hat and Mittens-Twill Set (pages 6264)
Clarification for the I-cord bind-off: You will need an extra dpn to hold the I-cord as you knit it and bind-off the edge. Cast the 4 I-cord sts onto the 5th dpn. With the 5th needle, work applied I-cord (see page 64), dec every 5th st by knitting 2 live sts tog with 1 I-cord st (k3tog) until 4 sts rem.

Two-of-a-Kind, Doll’s Cardigan (page 72)
Row 7 of the Peplum instructions should read: K3, *work chart over 9 sts, k7, work chart over 9 sts*, k6, rep bet *s, k3.

Stocking Stuffers(page 77).
The lace trim on Ann Budd’s stocking (page 78) was adapted from Lace from the Attic, not The Lacy Knitting of Mary Schiffmann.
