Knits Gifts 2018: Garnet Wrap
I can think of few things more inviting than curling up in front of a toasty fire, with a beautiful knitted wrap around my shoulders, and a glass of wine in hand. Turn a British crime drama on the TV and you’ve got my idea of heaven. It turns out this is also Cheryl Toy’s idea of heaven—though she’s probably holding a new knitwear design instead of wine! The Garnet Wrap featured in Interweave Knits Gifts 2018 was inspired by dark, moody Celtic and Shetland series and is one of the most beautiful wraps I’ve seen lately.
Cheryl describes drawing on moorland scenes, where moist turf and leaden skies brew dense, earthy fog when designing this piece. The lush rectangular wrap juxtaposes a deeply etched Celtic braid with simple fields of stockinette stitch. Classic ribbing touched with eyelets provides a strong yet elegant edge.
I love that the Garnet Wrap is so generously sized for maximum coziness. It could easily double as a beautiful throw. The intertwining cables of the Celtic braid have amazing stitch definition with Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran Tweed. The heavier weight Aran yarn also means you won’t spend the entire holiday season knitting it.
If you’re like Cheryl and me, queue up a new series on your favorite streaming service, cast-on the Garnet Wrap immediately, and knit your way to the comfiest of scenes.
