What Happened at Yarn Fest 2022
Yarn Fest 2023 is coming soon, so mark your calendars! We’ll be back in Loveland, Colorado April 12-15th, 2023 and workshop registration is now open. We’re also excited to announce two new dates and locations: Yarn Fest Milwaukee (May 23-27, 2023) and Yarn Fest Lancaster (Aug 1-5, 2023). Get ready to attend numerous expert-led workshops and explore a Marketplace full of top-notch vendors at each event.
Will we see you at Yarn Fest this year? If you haven’t attended Yarn Fest before or just want to look back, here’s a recap of our 2022 Loveland event.
Community is such a vital part of fiber crafts. The Interweave team sincerely missed being able to connect with our fellow fiber lovers in person over the pandemic years. So, we were ecstatic when we welcomed everyone back to Yarn Fest 2022. And oh, how ready attendees were to learn, explore, shop, and more!
For those of you who couldn’t make the trip to Loveland, Colorado in 2022, we hope this recap of what you missed inspires you to mark your calendars for next year. There truly is nothing better than coming together as a community and celebrating our shared passion for the fiber arts.
Back to School
Classes were amazing at this year’s Yarn Fest. Students had their choice of more than 90 classes from 25+ instructors. Topics ranged from knit and crochet to spinning and weaving. There were even dyeing and needle felting classes too!
I heard from countless students that they couldn’t be more excited to be back. One student pulled me aside to say that she wanted someone to know how amazing instructor Terri Drouin-Guerette was in class. She loved all the instructors she had classes with, but Terri took extra time ahead of class to prepare for a visually-impaired student. Her preplanning made the class more informative and educational for every student.

Sold Out Marketplace
Every single booth on the show floor was sold out at Yarn Fest 2022! There was so much to see and do while walking the aisles. If the endless array of yarns didn’t raise your heart rate, then the amazing tools, ceramics, buttons, accessories, books, and raw fibers must have. I smiled Saturday afternoon as visitor Shelly L. shouted and beamed to those of us at the front desk, “Great show! I loved the vendors!”
It wasn’t all shopping on the show floor. There was lots of learning, too! We debuted our new Yarn Fest Fiber Stage this year. Crochet instructor Bonnie Barker kicked of the festivities singing crochet parodies. From there we learned everything from a quick 2-color cast on from Cori Eichelberger to how to join yarns with Harry Wells. Longmont Yarn Shoppe hosted Yumiko Alexander who shared the benefits of not adding shaping to knitted garments. Plus, The Fiber Seed paired up with Mountain Meadow Wool to talk about the American wool industry. It was incredible!
Interweave Community Scarf
One of the highlights for me personally was getting to cast on the Interweave Community Scarf at Yarn Fest 2022. This is a project that is near and dear to my heart. The idea was inspired by Da Muckle Gravit, a scarf cast on by Hazel Tindall in Shetland in 2004. This scarf is a project for all of us to work on together. It represents the fiber community itself. It’s never ending. All are welcome. And you don’t need to know how to knit or crochet to take part, there is always someone to teach you.
I want to extend a special thanks to Plymouth Yarn for sponsoring the scarf and seeing the need for a project we all work on together. In just 4 days of stitching, the Interweave Community Scarf has grown to more than 5 feet in length. We’ll be bringing this scarf to future Yarn Fests as well as Interweave Escapes. I look forward to seeing this continue to grow in the coming years and makers coming back to say, “hey, look, I did that row!”
