Description
The simple over-and-under structure of basket weave patterns appeals to Valentina Devine. For this pillow she’s created an oversized “woven” fabric with crocheted strips worked lengthwise in single and half-double crochet. The covered under portion of each strip is worked as a solid block, and the segment of the strip that shows is worked with slits that create a lattice effect. This “woven” fabric would work equally well for a bag, rug, afghan, or even a kimono jacket. Valentina chose the colors for the pillow at random from La Lana Wool’s handspun, plant-dyed yarns; their soft, rich hues form a palette that blends together in a pleasing way, no matter how the colors are combined. Pick any colors you like, says Valentina — you can’t go wrong.
