Description

Work in the round from the bottom up to create this knitted cap featuring stranded colorwork.

Designer: Erica Schlueter

Difficulty: Intermediate

Finished Size: 21" circumference and 7.5" tall.

Specific Yarn Used: Classic Elite Yarns Blackthorn(50% superfine alpaca, 50% wool; 120 yd [110 m]/3.5 oz [100 g]): #7075 beaver gray (MC) and #7016 alabaster (white; CC), 1 skein each.

Needles: Size 9 (5.5 mm): 16" circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Marker (m); tapestry needle. Gauge 16 sts and 18 rnds = 4" in charted patt.

Notes: This hat is worked in the round from the bottom up. In the crown shaping, including Rows 14 and 15 of the Bear chart, the last double decrease uses two stitches from the end of the round and one stitch from the beginning of the next round. Replace the beginning of round marker after the decrease on each decrease round. The charts are worked using the stranded method. Always pick up the background color over the pattern color and pick up the pattern color from under the background color; this will prevent tangling. Keep floats loose. For floats longer than four stitches, tack stranded yarn on wrong side of work.
