Description
Imagining an old-fashioned “wedding stocking,” Deborah Newton created these lacy yet rustic over-the-knee socks. Beginning with a wide rib, an array of lace patterns gradually decrease in width to shape the stocking.
Finished Size: Foot: About 7½ (8)” (19 [20.5] cm) circumference; foot length is adjustable. To fit a woman’s small/medium (medium/large). Socks shown fit a woman’s U.S. size 8 shoe.
Yarn: Shown here: Quince & Co. Chickadee (100% wool; 181 yd [166 m]/50 g): #105 glacier, 5 skeins.
Yarn Weight: #2 – Fine
Needles: U.S. size 3 (3.25 mm): set of 5 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Marker (m); tapestry needle; 1¾ yd (1.6 m) of ½” (1.3 cm) wide stiff ribbon (optional).
Gauge: 26 sts and 36 rnds = 4″ (10 cm) in St st in the rnd; 25 sts = 4″ (10 cm) in Chevron patt.
